Freedom to Read Week

February 23rd to March 1st is Freedom to Read Week in Canada. Education & Music Library staff welcome the opportunity to raise awareness each year. We have a variety of materials from the past to the present on our display next to the reading lounge.

  1. Love the description cards explaining the ban on the book. I can’t help but notice the book Heather has Two Mommies as it reminds me of the Freedom to Read display at Murray, which has the book Daddy’s Roommate. Both of these books are on the ALA’s 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books: 1990 – 1999 (http://www.ala.org/bbooks/100-most-frequently-challenged-books-1990%E2%80%931999). I find it interesting that Heather has Two Mommies is #9 on their list, but Daddy’s Roommate is #2.
