3.1415926535 Mangled

Science Library has been treated to a pie this Pi Day. You may see here and appreciate the beauty of Steven’s work and generosity. It has since been mangled and we are contented at our desks wondering who will volunteer to clean the cherry stained plates.

Public Library – that’s us

Every once in a while we have the pleasure of assisting the public at this publicly funded institution. This morning Science received a call from a senior citizen. We were the only library she found in the phone book that had Science in the title and she had a science question. There are volcanoes erupting in Hawaii – how hot is the lava? Quick fingered, our fastest typist comes back with between “700 and 1,200 degrees C”. A happy patron, thrilled that she will be able to impress her grandkids.

Squished up in Science

Well, the fellows of the basement work team have done their job and the shelves await the brilliant logistic mind of Barb Bodnarchuk before we can have our books back.  And Engineering’s books. And some of Murray’s books, and anyone else want to send us some books?  Space apparently awaits.

Science of Stacking

Progress is being made down below in the Science Library. Steven sneaks down (with permission) to take photos of how things are coming along with our new compact stacks and these are today’s shots.

We have a ‘loud construction’ sign at the front, but it isn’t really. There has been some drilling, but it isn’t much more than a dental nightmare, and we can’t hear the music the workers play while they assemble the stacks. So, still quiet at Science.

High Tea

With a party organizer on our team like Megan Johnson can you doubt it? Yes, we had High Tea at the Science library – in celebration of Jill Crawley-Low’s birthday. Originally we planned for her actual birthday, sent our almost engraved invites and everything…then Brenda pointed out that though her calendar said she would be at the staff meeting (our cover story), Jill was actually going to be beaching it in Hawaii. Oops.

Plan B. The next staff meeting, when Jill was back. Heather loaned tablecloths, teacups and plates, Beth brought a tea service, Megan and Steven and Brenda and DeDe and Li brought the food. Lexi did the centerpiece. DeDe was to corral Jill in her office while we set up. We should have added the precaution of locking the kitchen door. Bunnies in the headlights. Dead silence. Jill deciding she should be in her office. Close the door.

She was soooo surprised when we asked her in fifteen minutes later. We had a wonderful time. And we are still munching the muchness of the moreish edible delights.
