Olaf the Snowman

Many people have stopped by the Ask Us Desk at the Murray Library over the last few weeks to compliment us on our latest counter top display. Olaf the Snowman had been cheerily wishing everyone good luck on their exams during December.

Now that exams are over, and we’re having unusually warm weather outside, Olaf is slowly starting to melt away… You’ll need to come and visit him soon before he’s gone for good.

Congratulations Retirees!

Congratulations to the most recent retirees from the iPortal, Financial Acquisitions, and Collection Services – Mike B, Donna B, Renée, and Laurianne! These four employees leave the library, taking with them a combined total of 126 years of service on campus. Thank you for your many years of service – you will all be missed. We wish you all the best!

Here are a few pictures from the latest 6th floor celebrations.

Congratulations Laura!

Huge congratulations to Laura from the Murray Interlibrary Loans unit and her new husband Dwayne, who were married this weekend!

To celebrate Laura’s special day, her coworkers at the Murray Library threw her a surprise bridal shower. It was difficult to plan a social committee event without the help of our social committee leader, but somehow, we managed to pull it off! Laura was completely surprised. We had punch, cake and chips, and we played bridal shower games. “Married or Not Married Celebrities” created lots of controversy, and much furious googling was involved. Apparently Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green are actually married, so keep that piece of trivia in your back pocket for future reference.

Surprise face.

It ended up being quite the party-filled week, with this party, the retirement party for Micheal and Donna, and the staff holiday party. But we didn’t mind an extra excuse to eat cake. 😉

Best wishes on your new marriage, Laura! May you have many long and happy years together.

4th Annual Library Holiday Celebration

The library’s holiday bowling party was a success! A small group of approximately 15 people met at Eastview Bowl for an evening of sport and fun. We played 3 rounds. The first was normal 5 pin bowling, where each person worked to knock down the most pins and get the highest score. The second round was Bingo Bowling – each team had to work cooperatively to knock down the pins in a variety of different combinations to black out their bingo cards. The last round was party rules – participants needed to knock down pins using a variety of silly maneuvers, such as throwing the ball while standing on one foot, throwing the ball with their eyes closed, or throwing the ball with their non-dominant hand.

Big thanks to Amy S-J and Robin for organizing this fun event!

One of the options for the party rules was to bowl backwards. (L-R) Lara’s husband, Racheal, Laura, and Amy P. are in various backwards-bowling poses. Lady Gaga watches them thoughtfully from above, while Amy S-J and Rachel H. watch from behind.

Remembrance Day Display at Murray

If you haven’t yet had the chance, stop by the Ground Floor of the Murray Library and take a look at our amazing display for Remembrance Day. Megan R. created the display with some help selecting the materials from David S. Can you believe this poster was made using only office supplies from Murray 122?

LDC Step Challenge

On behalf of the LDC I would like to everyone who participated in the Step Count Challenge. It was a great success! Together we walked 4,626,874 steps! That’s pretty great.  Here are some photos of a couple of our prize winners:

Truda won the FitBit! Congratulations!

Liv won the Library Tote Bag! Congratulations!

Treaty Education Display at the Education & Music Library

Now that classes have begun, we’re excited to promote our most current display in response to the TRC’s Call to Action. Here is a brief overview of our display, including some pictures.

Solemn promises: Treaty education in Saskatchewan

The intent of this exhibit is to showcase a broad range of resources which can be used to teach elementary and secondary school students about the historical context and importance of First Nations’ treaties and treaty education in Saskatchewan. By displaying these resources in conjunction with timelines, quotes, lesson plans and projects created by The Office of the Treaty Commissioner, educators, and students, we hope to foster conversations, spark ideas, and inspire students and pre-service teachers to deepen their understanding and capacity to teach the next generation of learners about this significant topic.

Curators: MaryLynn & Tina (with help from Beth at Science)

Here is a list of resources used for the display: TreatyEdResourcesBooklet

The display will run until the end of December 2017. Feel free to stop by and check it out!
