REACH Toolkit

The REACH program is a curriculum resource aimed to help prepare teachers to educate students about cannabis and health.

  • The program consists of 2 modules. Module 1 is aimed at a grade 7 audience whereas Module 2 is intended for grade 9. Each module consists of 4 lessons which have been mapped to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s curricular outcomes and indicators for health education in grades 7 and 9. Each lesson lasts approximately 40 to 55 minutes, but they can be adapted to accommodate a tighter schedule.
  • Students are guided through important topics using the teach back strategy, a method shown to be effective in improving comprehension and influencing behaviour.
      • Lesson 1: Introduction to Cannabis
      • Lesson 2: The Science of Cannabis
      • Lesson 3: Social Science Implications
      • Lesson 4: Peer Pressure, Decision Making and Harm Reduction
  • The toolkit includes comprehensive learning outcomes, a list of required resources and materials, directions and lesson outlines, suggested activities, lesson checklists, evaluations, and research highlights. A resource section for teachers is available to access further information and prepare for the lessons. The toolkit also includes supplementary videos which feature youth that were involved in this project, and highlights their thoughts, perceptions and misconceptions.
