Monique Blom
Monique Blom is a multifaceted interdisciplinary artist, activist, consultant, and arts educator whose creative journey unfolds amidst Canada’s wildwood landscapes. Known for her interdisciplinary approach, Blom’s practice integrates her profound connection to nature into performances and public art interventions, exploring the intricate dynamics between women, domesticity, and spirituality. As a partner in The Domystics and an experienced designer, she continues to push the boundaries of artistic engagement through immersive and participatory experiences. Her recent work in GalaModern at the Remai Art Gallery in 2023 and 2024 exemplifies her ability to incorporate her creative practice into prestigious events, while her numerous performances over her career have garnered national and international acclaim.
Blom graduated with a Master of Education from the University of Saskatchewan (2010) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from the Alberta College of Art and Design (1998). She has over 25 years of experience as a practicing artist and serves as an Art Education Sessional Lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was recently honoured with the 2024 USSU Excellence in Teaching award for her innovative work in the College of Education.
In addition to her academic contributions, Blom is the Palliative Arts Specialist at the Hospice at Glengarda, facilitating multidisciplinary projects for end-of-life care. Her work has been showcased at prominent venues such as Remai Modern Art Gallery, Princeton University, MUAC (Mexico City), and SVA (New York). Alongside her husband, Shayne Metcalfe, Blom co-founded Skullback Studios Residency/Retreat Centre and ISEE Motion Picture Company, furthering her commitment to holistic artistry and community engagement.
