Christopher Lake is approximately 6.66km2 2. The Village of Christopher Lake borders the southern edge of the district2. Since Christopher Lake is a small watershed, water levels are more susceptible to changes in seasonal patterns. Therefore, the Spruce River dam can pump water from Anglin Lake through a channel into Christopher Lake when lake levels decrease to a certain level and for Christopher Lake, this level ranges from 514.65 to 514.81m 2. This can also be done for Emma Lake as well if lake levels are outside 515.42 to 515.57m since Emma Lake is also characterized as a small watershed.
The Christopher Lake Protected area is 0.8km2 alongside the southwest corner of Christopher Lake which under the Parks Act, 1986, was created to protect wildlife habitat in that region1. Since Christopher Lake is also characterized as shallow with 18km of shoreline, making this lake sensitive to shoreline land-use changes1. Additional structural land-use changes on an already developed lake like Christopher and Emma Lake, with existing boat launches and lakefront development, are a huge concern1.
Emma and Christopher Lakes Association (ECLA) is a community organization where volunteers can sign up and support different initiatives. These initiatives include supporting the District of Lakeland water quality program, promoting safe boating practices, and protecting habitats on Christopher and Emma Lakes2.
