Choosing a Creative Commons License

Learning more about Creative Commons Licensing has supported my understanding of open education resources and work in higher education. I made the decision to choose the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license for my artefact. After reading the website I determined this would be the ‘best fit’ for this picture. The picture s a model I created to illustrate Indigenous ways of knowing and educator disposition. I am comfortable sharing my work with other, I would prefer however that the model maintain the integrity that was intended when I constructed it. My intention in sharing is that it will interest others and they will reach out for conversation about the deeper meaning. This may benefit both parties and lead to additional learning that can support the model.
At the core is the disposition an educator brings with them to the learning environment. Their mindset will determine the chance for success of all learners, but primarily, Indigenous learners. A humble approach to education will involve the educator seeking ways to honour learner’s prior knowledge. Accessing this prior knowledge can protect space for learner voice and value learners through flattened hierarchies. The reflective educator consciously seeks to identify how lived experiences have influenced their worldview and recognize this may cause unnecessary difficulty for Indigenous learners. A partnership approach to education requires respecting multiple worldviews that will foster understanding of the value of shared responsibility. An action-oriented approach to education will involve taking concrete steps to obtain equitable outcomes for all learners with a focus on the success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit learners.
