Bajo sexto – Oversized Mexican twelve-string guitar that typically served as a bass instrument in small groups.

Bossa nova – A samba-based, jazz-influenced Brazilian popular-song style that became popular in the United States in the early 1960s.

Bugalú – A blend of Latin music and rhythm and blues.

Country rock – Music combining a strong honky-tonk two-beat with a clear, simple rock rhythm.

Salsa – A popular dance oriented music which developed out of a fusion of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Latin American musical styles.

Tejano – Hybrid blending Mexican music with outside influences.

Tropical Latin – A kind of rock distinguished by a large number of percussive intruments and a clave-like rhythm.
