Workshops
Participants were invited to take part in 5 participatory animation workshops hosted through Zoom. We recruited 6 participants who attended all the workshops to learn how to animate! Recruitment took place between December 2021 and January 2022.
Session 1: Introduction
Thursday January 13th, 2022: During session 1, participants were introduced to the basics of animation. We drew toilet-paper characters as an icebreaker and then introduced ourselves.
Session 2: Character Design & Storyboard
Thursday January 20th, 2022: In session 2, participants practiced character design by drawing a crazy cat and tried making a storyboard by planning out a story representing the pandemic toilet paper scramble!
Session 3: Introduction to Animation Apps
Thursday January 27th, 2022: In session 3, participants practiced using the free animation applications Flip-a-Clip and Stop Motion Studio both available on IOS and Android. Flip-a-Clip is for hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation so we practiced this by animating a ball bouncing. Stop Motion studio is for stop motion animation so we tried it by making an object move from one end of a surface to another.
Session 4: In-Depth Lesson & Review of Apps
Thursday February 3rd, 2022: Participants shared their in-progress work during session 4 and we spent the rest of the time listening to music and working on animations.
Session 5: Sharing Work
Thursday February 17th, 2022: In session 5, participants shared their work and answered some questions regarding their animation and art experience in this project.
