One misconception people with white privilege make is that if they do not participate in racist hate acts, they are not being racist. This meme represents the two types of “non-racist white people”. On the right we have an image of a small sad dog crying while sitting down, this shows weakness. In contrast to this, we have the dog on the left. This dog is edited to look immensely muscular and stands upright to represent strength and power. I have labeled both “non-racist” at the top because that is what both of these characters identify as. The left strong dog is shown with the text, “That cultivates social change”, to represent the groups of people who speak out against racism by taking the path of most resistance. This is a hard thing to do in North American society because of the amount of resistance they face due to unequal social systems. This makes them strong hence, the representation of the muscular dog. Now, on the right, the dog’s text is, “That does nothing and stays silent”. I used the weak dog to represent this group of people because they are taking the path of least resistance. They are working with unequal social systems allowing other people who are committing racist acts to continue with what they are doing. The result of this makes them a weak and sad just like the dog. Hopefully, this meme will help people reflect on their choices and help lead them to create social change.
