DRINKING WATER SOURCE PROTECTION

Analysis of the environmental effects of surface water pollution should be maintained on a regular basis by researchers to indicate any trends in pollution loads of rivers, lakes, and streams worldwide1. Thus, water quality testing in these lakes would require additional effort to determine appropriate levels of nitrogen and phosphorus water quality targets. With water monitoring programs, water quality can be quantified, concerns can be identified, and this will help policymakers make land-use decisions that preserve natural resources and quality of life. Water Rangers is a non-profit organization in Canada that has allowed individuals to be proactive in their community and collect baseline water samples at various strategic points along their waterbody. The organization created an easy tool for water quality testing for anyone to get started. In doing so, even most of the local NSRB lakes have an observation report on the website that can be accessed and viewed by anyone. Those links can be found under each lake’s resources and the link to the organization can be shown in the Connections Tab.

Song: Murky Water (Smelly Cat Remix) – Vivian Nguyen

Lyrics:

Murky water, murky water
What are they feeding you?
Murky water, murky water
It’s not your fault

Fertilizers and the boat wakes
If only they knew what they did to lakes
Overuse and sediment-resuspension
It’s not your fault

Let’s be careful with what we do
So that our lakes can look brand new
Murky water, murky water
It’s not your fault
