For my KT assignment, I wanted to learn about ADHD in childhood/adulthood and examine the effects this disorder has on cognitive development. I believe this topic is important to discuss because ADHD is one of the most common disorders diagnosed in childhood. It is important for parents and teachers to learn about ADHD because it can have lifelong impacts on the child and the family. There are many unanswered questions about ADHD and the effects it has on cognitive development and the effects that treatments of ADHD have on cognitive development, so it is important to bring this discussion to light to examine issues surrounding this disorder. Children are the future of society, so it is important to understand what positively affects their cognitive development and what negatively affects their cognitive development. This artifact is meant to educate teachers and parents about the effects ADHD has on cognitive development, treatments for ADHD, and what they can do to help support a child with ADHD.

Sleep is a basic need for us as humans. As people go about their days, it is important to remember to make time to sleep. Individuals who live with various disorders such as autism, often have greater issues with trying to fall asleep and more importantly staying asleep. There are many reasons why this is important for both children and adults alike, and there are various methods that can be used to help offset the symptoms that a person experiences with their sleep disorders. Knowledge and awareness are critical for creating a healthier society. Thank you for taking the time to learn about what is known regarding sleep disorders in autistic individuals. The target audience for this information would be parents of children who have either been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, or those that have received a presumed diagnosis. Although this cannot necessarily cure their child of sleeping issues, it can make sure they know that they are not alone and that there are options for their children. This could be a resource that is sent to parents with other similar resources. It is also important for the general public as sleep is important and the listed behavioural interventions that can be used on all individuals suffering from insomnia.
The reason this topic was chosen is because it provides a good educational base on eye witness testimony. Specifically, it informs people about some techniques or complications that can decrease accuracy, but also teach some helpful techniques to improve it. By singling out research that provides evidence on the effectiveness of these techniques, the general public can be confident in their use of them. It also looks at eye witnesses across ages and therefore can directed and applied to more than one age group. For the age range of children, special care is needed when using them as witnesses and as such people should be more informed about the proper practices to prevent decrease in accuracy or the possible effects of suggestibility since they are more susceptible to these. Not only does this knowledge translation teach people about being better witnesses and the importance of that, but it also can help them be aware of poor witnesses if they are ever put in a situation where they must be a jury member. It should also be stressed that this project challenges the bias that a confident witness is an accurate witness, which is not necessarily the case and that tons of other factors play a role in being a good witness. Overall the area of witnesses is extremely important as it involves the legal system and can be the deciding factor on if someone gets convicted of a crime or not. Because of this it only raises the need for information for the public so that people can be better prepared and informed.KT Final - Pepin
