Introduction

Hi, everyone! My name is Francine Bebita, and I’m currently in my second year as a political studies major. I’m originally from a small town nearly an hour and a half away from Saskatoon called Drake. For fun, I like to crochet, read books, sketch, and watch movies. I am taking this class primarily to inform and enrich my understanding of how the intersectionality of gender, race, sexuality, etc. underscores the bases upon which politics and political structures operate. I’m also interested in analyzing how representations of political and social events in the media affect the general public’s perception of these issues and possible solutions. I had taken online classes before, one of which was another women’s and gender studies course last term, and my only anxieties rest in keeping up with this course’s pace along with other courses. I look forward to learning more about this fascinating field and to learning from my peers!

In terms of my learning goals for the blogging assignment, I would like to:

  1. Improve my writing skills to be both more concise and insightful
  2. Better integrate and reflect on course material in my posts
  3. Refine my approach to studying media through different historical, cultural, and social contexts

I love learning about everything and anything, and understanding how gendered thinking affects how media and events are perceived is incredibly pertinent to my experience as a young adult. With this blog, I hope to further my knowledge of current events and improve my critical thinking skills in evaluating the biases, ideologies, and criticisms that are present in current events.
