Discussions of mental illness on university and college campuses have historically focused on documenting and improving the wellbeing of students.

At AMIP, we explore how instructor experiences of mental illness shape teaching and learning in higher-learning environments. Particular research interests include:

    • How instructor disclosures of mental illness influence stigma, student learning experiences, and student outcomes
    • How individuals working in academic settings experience the relationship between their teaching practice and their mental health struggles
    • The challenges faced by post-secondary teachers living with mental illness and the unique strengths they bring to college and university teaching roles
