Instructor Mental Illness Disclosures in Post-Secondary Classrooms: Exploring Student Impacts
Aims: To explore the impact of instructors’ ongoing practices of disclosing mental illness on student perceptions, mental illness, stigma, and learning outcomes. This involved collecting and analysing data from students across various disciplines who had been taught by a team member that disclosed their own experiences of mental illness in the classroom.
Current Status: Working to mobilize this knowledge for the benefit of peers and institutions.
In Our Own Words: Experiences of Post-Secondary Instructors who are Open about Personal Mental Illness Experiences
Aims: Using the University of Saskatchewan as a case study, the project investigates key aspects of university educators’ experiences of living openly with mental illness. This includes exploring variations in personal experiences across disciplines and diagnostic categories and examining how intersecting identities (ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) shape life with mental illness on campus.
Current Status: Data collection and analysis are ongoing.
