Update – Sexual Assault U of S Campus (Saskatoon Police Service)

The Saskatoon Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old male in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on the University of Saskatchewan campus yesterday afternoon.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on May 23, 2012, the 26-year-old female victim was on campus when she was approached by a male. He convinced her to attend a nearby parking lot off of Seminary Crescent. When they arrived, the suspect sexually assaulted the female before fleeing on foot. The victim was not physically injured during the assault.
As a result of media coverage and the public’s help, Police received information that led to the arrest of a male from the Battlefords area who now faces charges of one count of sexual assault and one count of uttering threats to cause harm and death. He will be seen by the Justice of the Peace tonight and is expected to make a court appearance on Monday.
The Saskatoon Police wish to thank the public and the media for their assistance in finding the suspect.

Sexual Assault Update

University of Saskatchewan Students, Faculty and Staff:
Further to my Feb. 17 email, I want to provide you with an update regarding the report of a sexual assault against a female occurring in McEown Park student residence on the university’s Saskatoon campus in early January 2012. On March 1, 2012, a male University of Saskatchewan student was arrested by Campus Safety and Saskatoon Police Services, and was charged with sexual assault in relation to this incident. This student has been removed from campus residences and his access to the campus has been restricted.
Since the matter is now before the courts, and because of the provisions of The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, I’m not able to provide you any further details about this particular case. However, if you have any other questions or concerns, please contact my office at sesd-avp@usask.ca.
Sincerely,
David Hannah, Associate Vice-President Student Affairs

Campus Safety Prevents Suicide

Just after 11pm on November 23rd, two U of S Peace Officers pulled a female subject from the railing of the University Bridge, moments before she intended to jump into the South Saskatchewan River.
Campus Safety was alerted by the Saskatoon Police Service who received a 911 that a female had gone missing from Royal University Hospital. Campus Safety responded to the area immediately and was able to track her to the bridge, where she was found straddling the edge of the railing, her attention focused on a passerby.
Officers could see she was unaware of their presence, and grasped onto her when she was in reach, which enabled them to bring her down to the walkway to safety.
The subject confirmed with Campus Safety that her intention was to jump off the bridge, and officers suggested she seek medical attention. She agreed, and was transported back to Royal University Hospital for treatment.
