USSU By-Election Call For Nominations

Do you enjoy politics and want to make a difference on campus? Do you feel your College, School, Institution or Group need a voice?

USSU River Clean Up

Have you recently taken a walk on the Meewasin Trail and noticed a lot of trash? That is why we are having the first campus-wide River Clean Up!

This event is in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan Office of Sustainability, the University of Saskatchewan Environmental Programs, and the Environmental and Bioresources Students Association – EBSA. There will also be booths set up along the trail for you the check out sustainable-minded campus programs and organizations such as Peer Health Usask!

Register at the booth behind Diefenbaker Canada Centre anytime between noon to 4 p.m. on September 26th. Bring your own refillable water bottle, snacks will be provided and prizes will be given out for the biggest trash, most trash collected, most valuable, and best find at 4 p.m.

After 4 p.m. warm up with your sustainable-minded students at Louis’ Loft for an informal networking session.

Dress warm and see you all there!

Calling All Student Leaders!

This is your chance to make a difference on campus!

U of S students create an energetic community where diverse personalities and interests thrive—inside and outside the classroom. Becoming a Student At Large (SAL) on a USSU committee is a great way to get involved with your students’ union and contribute to making our campus a better place.

The USSU is governed by University Students’ Council; to aid Students’ Council, there are a number of committees that review issues in depth and provide recommendations for action to the Executive. For more information regarding USSU committees, read the USSU Bylaw.

Sexual Assault Awareness Week

Sexual Assault Awareness Week will take place on campus from September 10-14. This weeklong series of events exists to encourage discussion within our community about sexual violence and highlight the power that individual voices have to change the culture.

Take Back the Mic

Join us for an evening of reclamation, as local spoken word artists take to the mic to address sexual assault and rewrite the narrative of what it means to be a survivor. The event will take place at Louis’ Loft at 7:00 PM on September 10, featuring performers from Tonight It’s Poetry and Write Out Loud, with a cover charge of $5.

Resource Fair

There will be a passive resource fair occurring in North Concourse within Upper Place Riel from September 11th-13th, featuring a variety of resources from organizations around Saskatoon who specialize in sexual assault, sexual health, healthy relationships, and more.

Women’s Centre Open House

The USSU Women’s Centre will be hosting an open house event on September 12th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the USSU Women’s Centre, located in room 103 in the Memorial Union Building. The event will encourage students to learn the whereabouts of the Women’s Centre, as well as explore the variety of resources they offer to the campus population. There will be free popcorn!

Take Back the Night

Saskatoon Women’s Community Coalition once again presents Take Back the Night: An Annual March to End Violence in the Community on September 13th at the YWCA 506 25th Street East. The evening will begin at 7:00 PM with a gathering at the YWCA and a presentation by local slam poet Elise Pallagi. The community march will begin at 7:30 PM and there will be refreshments following the march and entertainment by Desiree Nieckar. There will be a bus available for individuals that may not be able to walk the entire route. Everyone is welcome! Dress for the weather and be prepared to make some noise.

USSU Welcome Week Presented by SaskTel

If you’re on the University of Saskatchewan campus September 5-7, you better not miss USSU Welcome Week, the biggest party on campus.

Celebrate back to school with the USSU! This year we have Food Trucks, Beer Gardens, Bands, DJs, Pancake Breakfast, Speed Friending, the Carless Drive-In, and tonnes of fun taking place in the Bowl including student groups and lots of free giveaways to students, including the USSU Executive handing out the USSU Survival Calendar.

And YES, there will be Mini Doughnuts provided by SaskTel in front of Place Riel all three days!!

The official USSU Welcome Week festivities begin at 11:00 am, in the Bowl with food, beer gardens, bands and DJs playing throughout the day. Thursday will feature Speed Friending at Louis’ Loft and wrap up with the traditional Carless Drive-In, featuring the Incredibles starting at 8 pm, in the Bowl.
