Sexual Violence Awareness Week Sept 25-28

It’s time to stand up against Sexual Violence! The USSU Women’s Centre is hosting Sexual Violence Awareness Week, and we have a lot of activities lined up; we are hosting Bystander Training, we will also focus on how to come together and stand against sexual violence by offering a Self-Defense Class, and our Take Back the Night on campus, the first one to happen since 2019!

Tickets to all these events are free and available on the USSU Women’s Centre linktree on Instagram. We will also have sign-making in the centre and a table in Place Riel with red and green flags to write on throughout the week!

Bystander Training
What to do when something happens in front of you.

Self-Defense Class

USSU Committees – Volunteers Needed!

Calling all USask undergrad student leaders! This is your chance to make a difference on campus!

You are eligible to apply for Student At Large (SAL) positions on any of the USSU Committees. Committee descriptions are available at ussu.ca/committees. Students may also read the SAL Policy at ussu.ca/bylaw for more information regarding SAL responsibilities.

Benefits of getting involved with the USSU
1. Student governance and leadership experience
2. Get a co-curricular record (CCR) on your transcript.
3. Honorarium
4. Have a lot of fun

If any of the following committees are of interest to you, please submit your application by September 14, 2023, at 4 PM CST.

Academic Relations Committee
Determines all the USSU’s academic policies and monitors and analyses academic concerns at the University.

Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee will advocate for the student body on academic and non-academic issues. This committee will work to identify concerns that affect students and develop strategies for addressing them.

Campus Group Committee
Liaise with campus groups regarding all issues and communications arising from or to student groups, including funding, ratification, insurance, and event coordination.

Elections Committee 
The Elections Committee oversees the USSU elections and referendums.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee will be responsible for managing USC’s finances. This committee will review and oversee the USC’s budget, ensuring that funds are allocated appropriately.

Governance Committee
The Governance Committee will oversee the overall functioning of USC. This committee will review USC’s bylaw, policies, and procedures where appropriate to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.

Student Life and Sustainability Committee
The Student Life Committee will organize events and activities for students. This committee will work to identify areas where students would like to see more programming and develop events that meet those needs.

Student and City of Saskatoon Connection Committee
Liaison between the students and the City of Saskatoon regarding student concerns with the City of Saskatoon and represent students on different projects and initiatives brought forward by the City of Saskatoon.

Academic Awareness Week

Academic Awareness Week (September 18-22nd)! Come meet the USSU’s Academic Advocacy Team and friends (USask Library, Career Services, USSU Help Centre, and GSA) at our tables in the North Concourse in lower Place Riel. Get your free Academic Handbooks and Syllabus Guide, do a quiz to enter a draw, grab some snacks, and learn about your academic rights and resources!

And don’t forget to join us for Ask Me Anything on Instagram (@ussuexec) with VP Academic Affairs, Elisabeth Bauman on Thursday and Friday (Sept 21-22).

USSU WELCOME WEEK Presented by SaskTel

If you’re at the University of Saskatchewan on September 6-8, you better not miss USSU Welcome Week – the biggest party on campus! And YES, the Mini Doughnuts provided by SaskTel are back in front of Place Riel.

Celebrate back to school with the USSU! This year, we have Food Trucks, Beer Gardens, DJs, Games, the Carless Drive-In, and lots of fun in the Bowl, including student groups and lots of free giveaways to students, including the USSU Executive handing out the USSU Survival Calendar.

USSU Welcome Week festivities begin at 11:00 AM each day in the Bowl, with food, beer gardens, and DJs playing throughout the day. Thursday will host the Carless Drive-In, featuring Shrek, starting at 8 PM, in the Bowl.

Welcome Week would not be possible without our great partners, we would like to thank SaskTel, Discover Saskatoon, Studentcare, Affinity Credit Union, Grip It Climbing, TD Bank, RBC on campus, Stoked Centre, and CIBC for everything they do for students.

USSU Ratified Campus Groups

What is a Campus Group?

Campus groups at Usask are an integral part of university life that helps students explore a wide array of interests and activities during their academic journey on campus.

How many groups do we have on campus?

The USSU recognizes more than 150 campus groups on campus each year, from college societies to cultural clubs. Find your ideal campus group at ussu.ca/student-groups

How much money does the USSU provide to support campus groups?

The USSU is a non-profit organization that aims to support undergraduate students at USASK. More than $50,000 is allocated in the USSU annual budget to support the campus groups.

Fall Term U-Pass Important Dates

Fall Term U-Pass is active on September 1. Visit ussu.ca/upass  for Opt-Out information and to learn how to set up your smartphone as your U-Pass.

August 21, 2023

Fall Term U-Pass can be loaded on your phone but can’t be activated until September 1. Fall Term U-Pass allows you to access Saskatoon Transit from September 1 to December 31. You will be required to activate your U-Pass each term.

August 21, 2023

Opt-Out applications may be submitted online for eligible students enrolled in the Fall Term. You will be required to submit your U-Pass opt-out application each term.

August 31, 2023

Summer Term U-Pass is deactivated at the end of the day. Fall Term U-Pass will be required effective September 1, 2023.

September 1, 2023

Fall Term U-Pass is active. You will be able to activate your U-Pass on your phone after the start of the term (12:00 am on September 1st for the Fall Term).

September 19, 2023

Last day to submit Opt-Out applications for eligible students enrolled in Fall Term. Completed online forms are due by 4:30 pm.

December 31, 2023

Fall Term U-Pass is deactivated at the end of the day. Winter Term U-Pass will be required effective January 1, 2024.
