Who Needs Feminism

Why do you need feminism? The USSU Women’s Centre will be traveling to colleges across campus from November 5th-9th promoting our Who Needs Feminism photo campaign. The intention of this event is to highlight intersectionality in feminism by gathering and sharing responses about what feminism means to students across campus. Stop by any of the locations listed below between 10AM-1PM to tell us why you need feminism, have your photo taken for our Facebook page, and learn more about the USSU Women’s Centre.

Halloween Fest

Are you a Halloween enthusiast? Do you like dressing up? Do you miss trick or treating? You can do it all this year on campus! Join us for a day of fun that includes social media costume contest, photo booth, candy giveaway, pumpkin carving, and Trick or Eat!

Social Media Costume Contest: Make sure to tag #ussuhalloween and post your costume on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter by Oct. 31st midnight. $75, $50, and $25 gift card will be given to the most likes, make sure your account is set to public!

Photo Booth and Candy Giveaway: Grab your friends and stop by Lower Place Riel (across from Treats) from 11 to 2 p.m. to get a free treat if you are dressed up, use the photo booth, or by bringing a nonperishable food item for Treat or Eat (all donations go to the Food Bank).

Pumpkin Carving: Come to the International Student and Study Abroad Centre (Room 80, Place Riel) at 4 p.m. to show off your pumpkin carving skills! Limited spots, sign up required.

Treat or Eat: Too old to go trick or treating? Now you have an excuse! On Halloween, instead of candy, thousands of Trick or Eaters from communities across Canada will go door to door to collect food for campus food organizations, and funds to support the work of students to continue to advocate for good food for all. Donate or join a team today!

Trick or Eat

Trick or Eat is Meal Exchange’s annual student-led national event dedicated to helping the 40% of Canadian post-secondary students who experience food insecurity. On Halloween, instead of candy, thousands of Trick or Eaters from communities across Canada will go door to door to collect food for campus organizations, and funds to support the work of students to continue to advocate for good food for all. Participate in the campaign this year by joining a team with the USSU Food Centre!

USSU By-Election

The University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union (USSU) is holding a By-Election for USSU President, and Members of Student Council. Voting begins at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018. Results will be announced after the Election Committee ratifies the results and will also be available online.

Mental Health Awareness Week

University is a stressful time for everyone. It is important to be proactive about your mental health. Take advantage of the Stress Less events that the USSU Help Centre and Peer Health Mentors are offering October 15-19, and all year round. We will also have plenty of resources available this week, and can always be reached in the future!

Mental Health Support Group

The USSU wants you to know that you are not alone! If you are struggling with your mental health and think you need support, come to the Mental Health Support Group held every Wednesday at 7pm in the USSU Help Centre, (located in room 105, Memorial Union Building).

You will meet, discuss and get to know others who have been dealing with mental health. The Mental Health Support Group is a safe space to open up and can provide different resources that may help you with your mental health.

It’s free, so come by!
