The Power of Arts, Science and Society in Tackling Water Challenges

Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA)

Date: Tuesday 19 November
Location: University of Birmingham
Hosted by: Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA)

This event explores how artists, scientists, decision-makers, and communities can work together to communicate water challenges more effectively and build the shared commitment needed for change. Through dialogue across disciplines and sectors, we will examine how evidence and creativity can combine to shape more resilient, equitable, and sustainable water futures.

The Great Thaw showcases the loss of the cryosphere as captured by artist Gennadiy Ivanov. Uniting arts and science, the exhibition encourages knowledge exchange and dialogue around glacier preservation and adaptation strategies. As part of the Transition Project, it highlights the powerful connections between artistic practice and scientific research. See the exhibit from Tuesday, 6 October 2026, 10:00 – Friday, 8 January 2027, 16:00 (UK) at Lapworth Museum, Aston Webb Building, University of Birmingham.
