Did you know…There are two LMS options at USask?

There are currently two supported LMS options at the University of Saskatchewan. Canvas has been newly introduced to our campus and is currently being phased in with early adopters and phase one colleges building classes here for fall. Supported learning opportunities are now available through ICT Training and Development and the Gwenna Moss Centre for those who applied to be an early adopter or whose college is moving to Canvas for fall.

For many remote and online courses, however, Blackboard will still be the supported LMS for the fall and winter terms. If you will not be an early adopter or your college will be transitioning at a later date then Blackboard will be your supported remote delivery learning system. Blackboard has a well established set of guides and training resources available through ICT training and development to get you up to speed on building your remote course materials online.

Upcoming Blackboard Introduction Training Sessions are available on July 3rd and July 13th from IT Training. Register for Blackboard Introduction Training here

Upcoming Blackboard Assessments Training is available on July 21st from IT Training. Register for Blackboard Assessment and Grade Center here

Here are some recorded video learning materials from ICT Training and Development that you may want to access if Blackboard is new to you.

Blackboard General Introduction – an introduction to Blackboard, intended for those who have never used Blackboard before

Quizzes in Blackboard – an intermediate-level Blackboard video to help people with some experience learn to use the Tests (Quizzes) feature in Blackboard

Assignments in Blackboard – an intermediate-level Blackboard video to help people with some experience learn to use the Assignments feature in Blackboard

Student Groups in Blackboard – an intermediate-level Blackboard video to help people with some experience learn to use the student groups feature in Blackboard

Discussion Boards in Blackboard – an intermediate-level Blackboard video to help people with some experience learn to use the discussion boards feature in Blackboard

How-To Move from Blackboard to Canvas

If you’ve already had experience with online courses and using the Blackboard LMS, but now need some support making the transition to Canvas there are new resources available for you. The Moving from Blackboard pages on the IT Training and Development site provides tips, guides, and a great feature comparison document that shows some of the differences in tools across the two LMS platforms.
